New Zealand accommodation in a world renowned bird sanctuary
“Your overnight stay has got to be one of the best experiences in the region.” Claire, Greater Wellington Regional Council.
Kapiti Nature Lodge is more than an overnight stay – it can be a life-changing experience. Your stay with us is one of the most unique alternatives to Wellington hotels you could possibly find.
We offer you a comfortable, relaxing, nature-inspired experience in one of the world’s great conservation environments, with genuine Maori hospitality.
We are situated on Kapiti Island, an internationally renowned sanctuary for New Zealand native birds, native forest and New Zealand wildlife, and next to a marine reserve. Kapiti Island Nature Tours provides the only overnight stay and guided tour opportunities on the island, and is run by local Maori iwi-tribe. Kiwi spotting and bird watching nature tours are our specialty.
Kapiti Nature Lodge can accommodate up to 10 people in five units, with facilities for hui-meeting, conferences, forums, and celebrations.
Everywhere you go at Kapiti Nature Lodge and Kapiti Island you can get up close and personal with our native birds. The call of the Little Spotted Kiwi, or Takahe; the cheeky badgering of a Kaka – you will wake up and start your day in a truly nature-inspired way.
Choose one of the activities on the Island, including an overnight Kiwi spotting tour, or day nature walk, or lay back and read from our library and view the world from the window on our lovely deck.
Staff at this unique Kapiti accommodation venue are committed to providing the best of professional service in a relaxed and genuine way, with great meals, comfortable surroundings, and the best of the natural world. Kapiti Nature Lodge is an excellent place to stay if you want to experience more.
We accept payment by cash, cheque, and direct debit into our bank account. Or MasterCard or Visa . We do not have electronic eftpos facilities on the island. Contact us for more information.
Activities available from the lodge include a range of walks, including coast walks (where you could see the NZ fur seal), bushwalks for forest birds, or take the Okupe Loop walk for a great lookout spot across Cook Strait. Breakfast watching seals, seafood gathering and preparation with one of our lodge whānau (family), guided nature/history walks, weaving weekends and more, are all available. Talk to us about how we can make your stay here one of the most special experiences you have in New Zealand.
We really look forward to sharing the Island with you soon.
